Hopefest Music Charity Festival

Since 2007, the juniors of St. Thomas More High School have worked together to put on an outdoor music festival to raise funds for local non-profit organizations. This year’s proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana as well as STM’s Options Program.

Each year, Hopefest has become more popular and grander. This year’s Hopefest will be held on April 8th at Parc International and will include all-day live music, great food, and family-friendly activities. The music line up even includes Louisiana Red and Marc Broussard!

Much of the thanks for Hopefest’s success goes to Lance Strother, STM Junior Religion Teacher, STM Campus Ministy Director, and Hopefest Event Coordinator. Lance mentors, encourages, and believes in his students so that they are able to make their ideas come to life for this festival.

This project teaches the participating teens how to raise funds, handle a budget, market an event, work together, and plan out something that will not only bring about awareness, but also provide funds for worthy causes.

As a junior at STM in 2009, I participated in coordinating a Hopefest. At that time, we were only on its 3rd year. We held a half-day music event with food and activties, and considered our efforts a success, but our little Hopefest was nothing like the Festival put on by today’s juniors.
